Some of The Most Inspiring Jewish Texts On Planet Earth
Hi, my name is Yaacov David Shulman, and over the last twenty-five years I've translated into English the most amazing and spiritually inspiring texts that I've been able to find. Here I am putting up--for free--much of that material. This consists of the following:
1. Teachings of R. Nachman of Breslov. Brilliant, intense, creative, one of the greatest Hasidic rebbes--his teachings are inspiring, creative, demanding and uplifting, and thoroughly original.
2. Teachings of Rav Kook. Great lover of Israel, Kabbalist, poet, philosopher and tzaddik (saintly Jew). First Chief Rabbi of the Holy Land. Daring thinker, soaring dreamer, challenging leader.
3. Teachings of R. Kalonymus Kalmish Shapira, the Piaseszner Rebbe. Great rebbe of the twentieth century, visionary, creator of a psychology of Hasidic spirituality and a programatic approach to spiritual revival.
4. Hasidic Stories. Everybody loves a story. These are direct translations from mostly nineteenth century Hasidic storybooks, from Hebrew and Yiddish. Wonderful, authentic flavor of a magical reality.
5. Psalms: original idiomatic translations of selected Psalms.
6. Original poetry.
My plan is to put up some representative material on each web page, provide a .pdf file for download and a link to where you can get the book (the last is actually not free).
Please look around, explore, recommend the site to your friends and enemies (maybe they'll become your friends), and let me know your thoughts.
I'm a professional writer, translator and editor, with about 30 books published, with all sorts of nice comments on them by people such as Cynthia Ozick, Norman Lamm, Howard Schwartz, and the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (more about that here).
So make yourself comfortable. Have a fruit, eat some cookies, drink a seltzer or maybe a cold orange juice, and look around!
